The Last Daily Prompt

bible-3370021_960_720Retrospective is the final prompt which apparently at one time was afterthought if you look at the link, but oh well. I am going to miss the Daily Prompt not only because sometimes I am at a loss for ideas on what to write about, but because I met so many cool people, found some cool blogs and gained a shit ton of followers. I noticed, too, that when I don’t link to an outside source my blog gets way fewer hits.

Most of the blogs I follow are in the reader, which I love. I can go to the reader and find my favorite followed blogs and also put in certain words for new blogs to follow. For example, if I type in the word retrospective, I might find some great blogs I normally would never find. Or maybe I type the word river, or just click on any one of the different keywords in my follower to see who has what to write today. Some of my keywords are related to mental health because I love to read about people overcoming obstacles.

So, this is our last shot at going to one page to find our friends or blogs we love to see in that gaggle of squares on The Daily Post page. I will keep looking for a similar format to join without having to join anything… that was kind of the beauty of this. There was no pressure… no email, or reminder. If I wanted to go to the page and write about the prompt, I could. I didn’t have to do anything. All I needed was a WordPress blog and to link back to the page.

Let’s not be strangers… get on WordPress, go to that followed blogs page and see all the wonder bestowed upon you. Click on some random keywords and find something worth reading… maybe you’ll find a new daily prompt. I know I’ll be looking.

Thanks for checking out my words… Blessed Be. ❤

Bewildered

doors-1767559_960_720

Bewildered. Floored. Muddled. Thunderstruck. You get the gist.

That is me since I released my first publication in December 2017. Now, to be fair, only .000000001% of the world population even knows I exist and when you look at those numbers, the fact that ten people bought ebooks, 37 people downloaded free copies and 3 people bought physical copies (I bought the other ten) is pretty effing good. It’s even better since I absolutely suck at self-promotion. I always feel like I am annoying people, being a nag… you know, like a gnat only bigger.

Bzzzzz………………………..

I just need to get this idea out of my head that I annoy people when I tweet, FB, Pinterest, Google+, or LinkedIn a link to my book. I think I also need to realize I am comparing myself and my stats to other people and I need to stop doing that. Like, now.

And I don’t mean poets like Maya Angelou or Emily Dickenson (is there any comparison, really?); more like poets I see on Amazon in the same category as me. But I have to put it in perspective to keep my sanity. Who the hell knows how long their books have been for sale? I mean, who the hell do I think I am? My book has literally been available for nine weeks.

There are so many doors of opportunity for me and patience, hard work, and determination will help me get through whichever I choose. That I know. I cannot give up.

When I first started this blog/site in 2007, it was actually called The Daily Woman and it was my daily posts about how to do great things. I did that about a year despite my lack of commitment along with my severe lack of networking and marketing skills. No one was interested in anything I had to say.

So, I made it a blog about addiction and kept the name. Despite the fact that there are hundreds if not thousands of blogs and websites about addiction, my story was unique. So I shared my journey through addiction and sobriety with everyone. I stuck with that a while and met some really great people that I maintain friendships with today. But like I said, everyone was talking about it and in such a dynamic way, my site was basically just a “Living Sober” testament that it could be done.

Then, I just stopped. For a good two years. I went outside, stretched in the sunlight, and broke up with my boyfriend of six years after I realized how toxic he was.

But I still had to write. I couldn’t not write.

So I made DAMSWriter after a great presentation I watched by Jeff Goins. And here I am. Still sober, still goofy, and still writing.

Maybe my bewilderment is based on fear… I mean, I let most of myself out in my writing, but I have yet to let all of me out in my writing. What would that look like? Should I really write the same way I journal? Hmmm…

I am working on the second book of poetry – not giving up! Also, still working on Consequences, which I hope everyone will love as much as I do. ❤

Thank you to every single person who bought or downloaded a free copy of Poetry Through Darkness. It truly means so much to me! You all rock.

In A Blink

sculpture-1371361_960_720

Live your life the best you can and always go after your dreams… follow your heart and harm none. Life goes by in the blink of an eye. Waste no thoughts on hate, getting even or having the last word. Life goes by in the blink of an eye. Focus on love, life, and the pursuit of bliss.

Happy Friday my friends.

Miraculous Mirror

fox-1540833_960_720

They say none of us know what we look like because we never get to see ourselves. A mirror is a reflection; not the real thing. If you feel pretty, when you look in the mirror you’ll see pretty. If you feel ugly, when you look in the mirror, you’ll see ugly. A mirror isn’t a reflection of what you see. It is a reflection of what you think and feel.

So, the mirror isn’t really the miracle at all. The miracle is that you have so much power to shape your world and it all starts with how you look at yourself.

As 2017 comes to a close, I hope that you will reflect on all the wonderful things you’ve accomplished in the last twelve months of your life. True, there may be some things that got sidetracked or even shoved into a dark hole.

That’s fine. Shit happens.

Despite the reflection of me looking back at me not really looking like me, I talk to it anyway. I ain’t easy on it either. I’m hard on people and even harder on myself. I need to be the best me I can be. All these chances I got in life and I’m still here? Yeah…

It truly is miraculous that I am still alive. I should have been dead a long time ago but for whatever reason, I breathe. I can’t just take that lightly.

So, A blessed yule and happy winter solstice to you. It’s a miracle any of us are here, really. Don’t take that shit for granted.

Blessed Be. ❤

Those Damaging Thoughts…

Thinker thinks about how to take sun burst shot

I have always been a thinker… more like an over-thinker.  I get something in my head that is pebble sized and before I know it there is a black boulder sitting in my skull that I want to smash out.  This doesn’t happen as much as it used to (which is scary, because it happens more than I like) and sometimes when it does, I get sucked into that damaging moment and my program goes out the window.  I don’t think about drinking or drugging because I have worked a solid 12 Step Program… but I guess, as much as I hate to admit it, I am human after all.

Shucks.

God has never given me anything I cannot handle.  Sometimes I try to handle the hurdles alone, and that is when I find myself sobbing in a little ball on the couch or my bed.  A light starts to glow in my head and I realize I need to pray, call a friend and journal.

IN THAT ORDER.

In the last couple weeks I learned that free write journaling does more damage to me because (and someone said it in a comment on my blog) I kinda get locked into that whiny, poor me thinking and get no reflection work done.  If I pray and talk to someone before I journal, I can focus on a solution instead of staying in the problem.  Which, honestly, my thinking is the biggest problem. I get really worked up over dumb stuff because sometimes, that little eleven year old voice in my head chimes, “How you feel does not matter, Darlene.  Shut your mouth and stuff it down.  Stuff it down!

I cannot stuff it down.  Also, I cannot go running to whomever I am upset with and start bitching about all the shit they did that offended me, hurt my feelings, made me angry or whatever.  This is not a good idea.  When I try to communicate to someone before I pray and talk to another sober individual, my thoughts come out of my mouth like verbal vomit.

The gift of interpretation is amazing in my life today.  Instead of fearfully viewing an event as potentially hazardous, if I am in a good place, I can step back and sort the facts from the thoughts and go from there.

How do you stop your negative thinking?
