Behind the Crooked Wheel – A Poem

One day I was on top of the world

Cocky and beautiful; patient and extreme

Slowly and methodically I started to melt

My soul slid painfully into the obscene

There was nowhere for me to change

I gripped the wheel of crooked self-destruction

My whole world went ablaze

As I awaited painful instruction

There was no end in sight for me

The lights all dimmed to black

How could I postpone this horror

And get my life on track

The crooked wheel so awkward yet pristine

Its nooks made me feel unique

Little did I know beneath the surface

Their twists would leave me shattered and weak.

I could get through life just fine quoting heavy metal lyrics.
